Troops from the 72nd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army led by Colonel Vic Tan successfully repelled 20 suspected NPA insurgents who attempted to attack a Globe Telecom cell site in Bgy. Tabon-tabon, Pacian, Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

The attackers, believed to be from Guerilla Front 20 led by Lito Masaring also known as “Commander DARYL,” were attempting to infiltrate the Globe relay station, but were forced to retreat as the military contingent and a DASIA security guard protecting the installation drove them back after a 20 minute firefight.

There were no casualties reported in this incident, and no damage to Globe equipment.

The same Globe facility was already attacked by suspected NPA insurgents in May 2008. Then, as now, the combined defense from AFP troopers and DASIA security stationed at the site triumphed. In the previous encounter, one insurgent was captured and several firearms were recovered.

Globe Telecom, a leading telecommunications service provider in the Philippines, and Western Union, the world’s leader in global money-transfer services, announced today that consumers in Hawaii can now send Western Union mobile money transfers to Globe GCASH subscribers in the Philippines.
