Town mayor hurt in northern Philippines shooting
A municipal mayor was wounded when fired upon by a lone gunman early Wednesday afternoon in the northern Philippine city of Tuguegarao, a regional police director said.
In a text message, Chief Superintendent Roberto Damian, Cagayan Valley regional police director, identified the victim as Maconacon, Isabela Mayor Francisco Talosig, who sustained a gunshot wound in his neck.
Damian said the shooting incident occurred 1:45 p.m. Wednesday in Caritan Centro village in front of the Alejandra computer shop while the victim was aboard a van.
At the time of the incident, Talosig was with P02 Ferdinand Allauigan and 2 unidentified Sangguniang Bayan members.
Damian said the victim was taken to the St. Paul Hospital while the suspect was seen escaping toward a north direction carrying with him the .45-caliber pistol used in the shooting.
As of posting time, the suspect has yet to be arrested.
